An interesting full moon this month as the moon will be full and on the 4th of July. This hasn’t happened since 1974 and won’t happen again until 2031. So the fireworks displays and the full moon don’t meet for another 11 years.

Also there will be a Lunar Eclipse, a Penumbral lunar eclipse to be more precise. An eclipse of this kind occurs when the Sun, Earth and Moon are imperfectly aligned. At this point, the Earth blocks some of the Sun’s light and covers a portion of the Moon with the outer parts of its (the Earth’s) shadow, also known as the penumbra. So this won’t be an eclipse where you watch the sphere of the Earth overtake the Moon, this is one that just casts a faint shadow on the face of the moon. Some folks may not even notice the difference, but it will happen and it should be cool. This will happen at 11:07 pm here in Western Virginia.
