After a long four-month hiatus, International Cricket is finally set to return as England host West Indies at the Rose Bowl in Southampton in the first Test of the 3-match series. This will be the Three Lions’ first assignment since their tour of South Africa which ended in February while West Indies last took the field in March against Sri Lanka.
Players’ form is a major concern for both sides having not played a competitive game for such a long period of time. With domestic cricket also suspended, the opportunity to regain fitness was rather limited with players allowed to return to training only about a month ago. The only opportunity to get some match practice for both sides came through intra-squad fixtures for both teams that the two sides played over the last few days.
The second and third matches of the series will be played in Manchester from 16th and 24th July respectively. The series remains a part of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test championship whose schedule is under doubt because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
