PARIS, Sept. 27 —“And the children of Israel journeyed from Ramses,” the Book of Exodus says in describing the flight of the Jews from the oppressive Pharaoh.
Now the mummified remains of the Pharaoh have journeyed from Egypt to Paris for treatment of a mysterious disease linked to a fungus infection. A good deal of French national pride was manifest when the mummy of Ramses II. who died in 1225 B.C. at an undetermined age and is believed to have been the Pharaoh mentioned in Exodus arrived last night in a sealed crate.
The French military aircraft that brought the mummy from the Cairo Museum was met by an air force contingent and the Garde Republicaine, France's equivalent of a Marine honor guard. Both presented arms as the crate was placed on a truck.
Alice Saunler‐Seite, Secretary of State for Universities, represented the Government at the welcoming ceremonies. Saluting “the mortal remains of one of the greatest chiefs of state of antiquity,” she expressed the Government's pleasure at the confidence Egypt was showing in permitting the mummy to come here it was a confidence borne of sentiment, she said.
