Immigration office wait times Built in 2024

I made a tool that collects and displays feedback about wait times at the Berlin immigration office. It’s on All About Berlin since November 2024.

No one knows exactly how long this process takes. Wait times vary from 1 to 10 months, depending on the department, the residence permit type, and pure luck.

While they wait, people are often left unable to start a new job and earn a living. People frequently lose their job before they even start due to immigration office delays.

In other cases, their old residence permit expires, and they are unable to travel outside Germany for months on end. People miss weddings and funerals, unable to secure the Fiktionsbescheinigung that would let them re-enter the country.

I navigate people through the immigration process since 2017, and I still don’t know how long these things take. This needed to change. By giving people a clear timeline of their residence permit application, I can make their journey much less stressful.

It’s one thing not to know when your food delivery is coming, and another not to know when you will receive a regular paycheck and stop burning through your savings. A friend I was hosting ran out of money before he even got a response from the immigration office. This is not an isolated case.
