Erica Dahl, Chairman of the Beaver Dam Lake Advisory Board had good news to share with lake dwellers, who have been looking out at what appears to be a throwback to what was the Beaver Dam farm valley once upon a time. In her August update Dahl said “First … the million dollar question … when will we have our lake water back?” She then shared that the last update from Orange County DPW is that they received the contractor’s updated schedule, and are on track for cleaning up the week of September 14. As soon as they get the DEC approval receipt the lake will begin to refill.
Dahl described the plans to bring Beaver Dam Lake back: Lake Bottom Vegetation: A presentation was that was given last month explaining the vegetation issues is going to be given one more time and recorded, so that all interested residents can watch it and ask questions. These are issues that we can learn to ensure that the Lake is healthier in the coming years. Findings included the following:
– We had an excess of nutrients in our lake prior to emptying the lake (specifically phosphorus and nitrogen) that fueled the growth of algal blooms.
