In light of a user's Chia wallet being hacked 10 XCH, you may want to keep your XCH in cold storage. This video shows you how...Announcement (self.chia)

As most of us have seen already, a user had their XCH hacked / stolen by using a malicious Powershell script. While it was very unfortunate for the user, there is a way to keep your Chia away from douchebag scammers / hackers.

The first way is to NEVER run Powershell scripts that you don't fully understand - if you come across a 'too good to be true' script, post it on communities like this one and get their feedback. There will no doubt be someone with much better understanding of the script's finer mechanics. Personally, I use only scripts that I have hand typed out myself, or ones that are reputable (e.g. Swar Plot Manager, Plotman) and NOT closed source.

So going back to what the thread title says... The second way to keep your Chia safe is to send it to a Chia wallet that is in cold storage. Without going into full detail in this thread, you can watch an in-depth how-to video here at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8--5b-10U_c. Basically, you are creating a wallet to store Chia on (one seperate from plotting), copying the keys to somewhere safe (e.g. encrypted USB drive, writing it on paper and storing it in a safe, etc), then removing them from the Chia client. Should you require your Chia in the cold wallet, you can import your keys from cold storage and use as you need to.
