So can you read it? From my experience with dotsies I'm guessing it's reasonably easy to "learn" but requires a huge amount of practice if you want to read at any useful speed, or be able to skim text for words. If anything, familiar characters probably make rot13 even harder.

Back in the day I implemented similar rot13 transformation as a wrapper program based on pipes and UNIX processes. The wrapper was basically a MitM/proxy between the terminal & shell, which transformed input and output streams on-the-fly with rot13. Unfortunately, that approach led to many shortcomings. Some of them listed below:

For the aforementioned reasons, I ultimately gave up learning to code & IRC in rot13. I'll probably give it another shot soon because patching st to perform the rot13 transformation addresses all the annoying issues of my previous solution.
