Radio Frequency Identification is a wireless communication technology used for data communication and object identification. An RFID based identification system consists of RFID readers and RFID labels/tags. Different object attributes (name, type, serial number, date etc) can be programmed into RFID tags and this information can then be read by means of RFID readers. The information exchange between the RFID tags and RFID reader occurs through radio waves. The captured RFID data is then automatically transferred to the information system.

RFID technology is increasingly becoming popular in several sectors due to its low cost and simplicity. This technology is widely used for proximity detection, vicinity detection, tracking, authentication, and access control.

Internet of Things or IoT belongs to the group of next-generation enabling technologies that serve as the foundation for the fourth industrial revolution or Industry 4.0. In its essence, IoT is a massive network of smart things. A smart thing is described as an object with integrated sensing, processing, and wireless communication capabilities. Smart-watches are a typical example of intelligent things. These watches incorporate many different sensors, can process the sensed data and are connected to the internet through WiFi.
