The tech-giant Apple is actively seeking to dial up their efforts in their work in both augmented and virtual reality. As of last year,  the company filed a patent for a “ mixed reality headset ” that would combine AR and VR. Apple CEO Tim Cook even went on to claim augmented reality as “the next big thing” in consumer technology, and that it’s likely to “pervade our entire lives” within the next ten years.

The patent itself allows for work to begin on a “mixed-reality system” that includes a head-mounted display and a controller that will aim to combine AR and VR effortlessly. Speaking with Variety, Apple claimed the headset would provide “3D virtual views of a user’s environment augmented with virtual content”.

First revealed in April last year, it was reported they were working on a headset capable of running both AR and VR with an incredible 8K display for each eye. The project, code named ‘T288’, is currently set for release in 2020.
