The exterior of the Walgreens store at the intersection of Gough and Fell streets in San Francisco, the site of a recent, brazen robbery captured on video.

Rampant shoplifting has shuttered more than a dozen San Francisco pharmacies in recent years — and a new video shows why.

The video, taken Monday afternoon at the Walgreens at the corner of Gough and Fell streets, shows a man with a bicycle filling a shopping bag with items as a patron and a security guard watch, filming the incident on their cell phones. The man places the shopping bag in the basket of his bicycle and rides down the aisle toward the bystanders.

The security guard attempts to grab the bag of pharmacy items in an off-camera exchange, but the man bicycles to the door and exits moments later with the bag of stolen goods.

“This is exactly why I held a hearing on organized retail theft and am pushing for greater accountability on shoplifting,” Supervisor Ahsha Safaí tweeted in response to the video of the brazen theft.
