This fun interview with the key creators of Kirby’s Adventure was found in the official Nintendo guidebook released the same year. It covers the design and origins of Kirby as a character, and the changes they made from the earlier GB game, Kirby’s Dream Land. The questions, as you might imagine, are rather light and fawning, but they show legendary developers like Sakurai, Miyamoto, and Iwata in a colorful light. To that end, I’ve included the staff profiles and the sketches of Kirby that they each drew themselves.

Masahiro Sakurai – Director Satoru Iwata – Producer/Programmer Shigeru Miyamoto – Producer Hiroaki Suga – Chief Programmer Takao Shimizu – Producer Takashi Saitou – Designer

Sakurai: Just after I joined Nintendo, they were accepting game design plans for “a game that anyone could enjoy.” That got me thinking, “I want to make a cute main character who everyone will love!” The game I ended up making then was the Kirby’s Dream Land for the Game Boy.
