so much of how we value things as a programmer is effected by the phenomenon of path dependence what do I mean? Ruby would have been impressive if you weren't already a Python programmer emacs can seem awesome if you aren't already ramped up on vi/vim Rust may seem neat if you arent already hardcore into Golang C#/.NET would feel very novel and a step forward to someone who had only done C before, and never Java/JVM so when industry is in the middle of a hype wave for a lang I tune it out
