I’ve spent the last couple of months testing the 100 most popular free Android VPN apps, which have 2.5 billon worldwide installs between them.

I analyzed the masses of results generated by those VPN tests to create this research report that’s intended to help you avoid using potentially unsafe free VPNs that compromise your privacy and security.

See the full list of the 100 VPNs I tested, including developer names and addresses, installs and other Play Store listing details.

This is the biggest piece of VPN research I have ever done but I believe there’s a pressing need for it due to the frequent surges in demand for VPN that we regularly see around the world, as governments restrict their citizens’ access to the internet.

The number of free VPN users has increased at least tenfold since I began seriously investigating the dangers of free VPNs in 2018.

I installed each of these 100 free VPN apps on my Android test devices and carried out a series of in-depth technical tests, aiming to cover every important aspect of VPN privacy and security.
