Unpopular opinion test balloon: TLM (Tech Lead/Manager), as a job, is a bad idea. Being a good TL is hard. Being a good manager is hard. Doing both at the same time? Very very few people have those talents. For small teams, maybe. But for anything substantial? Not a fan.

FWIW -- I've done it and I've backed away because I'm a decidedly mediocre manager. But I'm open to folks convincing me otherwise! That is what I mean by "test balloon".
