Today's far-sided halo CME has a speed (3000+ km/s) such that it was classified as extremely rare (ER), perhaps occurring only once or twice every few decades. The NASA simulation for the CME shows that the CME is so strong it induces a weak shockwave in all directions after the main injection of plasma. Whoa! Good thing it wasn't Earth-directed!!
