Year 2024 ends on bad note for Boeing with twin disasters striking 737-800 aircraft on same day
Two Boeing airliners 737-800 were involved in two separate air disasters on the same day in Torp of Norway and Muan of South Korea. While Muan aircrash led to 47 deaths so far, none was injured in the bellylanding at Torp. Incidentally, both incidents happened ont the same day.
As the year draws to a close two of its aircraft 737-800s, were involved in major accidents with one of them leaving 47 dead, while passengers aboard the other flight had a literally providential escape.
KL1204 skid off runway after an emergency landing at Torp Airport in Norway, with all the 182 passengers and crew being reported uninjured.
However, the second incident did not spare the passengers with 47 passengers being reported dead, when a Jeju airliner 2216 crashed while bellylanding in Muan airport in South Korea.
Initial reports quoted failure of landing gear as the cause of mishap with the pilots opting for bellylanding ultimately leading the plane to veer off the runway and crashing into a wall. However, later footage emerged to show a possible bird strike moments before the bellylanding.
