Software Radio Systems (SRS), an Irish firm specialising in 5G RAN (Radio Access Network) software, has revealed it has successfully integrated, tested and validated the srsRAN Enterprise 5G stack with Picocom's L1 for small cells. The fully integrated small cell operates on Picocom's PC802 small cell development board.

The announcement was made at the Small Cells World Summit in London and comes as a result of SRS's previous integrations with Picocom's ORANIC inline PHY and NIC, and it's PC802-based Split 7.2 RU, featured at MWC24. The srsRAN L2 and L3 stack runs on Picocom's small cell board, offering a front haul application programming interface (FAPI) to the Picocom L1. Subsequently, SRS customers can roll out the same RAN software with the optimal hardware configuration regardless of whether the requirements are O-RAN, vRAN or fully integrated.

The srsRAN Enterprise 5G, developed entirely by SRS, is a complete 5G RAN stack featuring layers 1/2/3. With full portability across processor architectures, the srsRAN solution is highly modular with clean interfaces supporting split 2, split 6, split 7.2, split 8 and integrated small cell deployment configurations.
