I helped pioneer the Internet of Things revolution in the 1990s bringing connected vending machines to life as an engineer at Real Time Data. Years later, I co-authored the Azure IoT reference architecture at Microsoft in 2014, and invented the Lumada Industrial IoT platform at Hitachi as the CTO in 2016. Both of these technologies reside in the Leaders Quadrant of Gartner’s IIoT Magic Quadrant.
I always wished I’d chronicled those important journeys. The amazing people, technologies, and challenges we overcame as a team represent some of the most important moments in my professional career.
Now that I’m creating the Thunderstruck platform at Ericsson, I’m going to bring everyone along for the ride and give you an insider’s view of how sophisticated Internet of Things technology is developed. I’ll take you from inception, to investor pitches, to design, to requirements, and on to development, testing, and deployment. If you ever read “The Soul of a New Machine,” you’ll get what I’m talking about.
