Twelve-Factor is not tied to any particular product, technology, or toolset. Rather, it’s a philosophy for software development that embraces portability, resiliency, stability and cost-efficiency as its driving forces.

The Twelve-Factor App was created by Heroku co-founder Adam Wiggins in 2011, so it’s been around for a while. Over the years, the Twelve-Factor principles have helped developers make applications that run in the cloud more resilient and easier to scale, manage and maintain.
