NASA's Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology May Help Spacecraft Fault Diagnosis

Research in Artificial Intelligence for Spacecraft Resilience (RAISR) is a software developed by one of NASA's interns. It utilizes AI&ML algorithms for space crafts' fault detection. The next step on the already happening cultural shift from ground-based problem resolution to letting the on-orbit systems solve problems themselves. First tests of RAISR will take place on a small satellite mission. There it can make real-time diagnosis decisions and compare them with ground control.
