The Internet Engineering Task Force Agency (IETFA), in collaboration with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), announces the introduction of the top-level domain name (TLD) ".js", for the first time accompanied by the integration of AI technology to ensure the integrity and relevance of domain registrations.
This initiative emphasizes the promotion of open-source projects within the JavaScript ecosystem. Being internet's most popular programming language, its open-source endeavors epitomize collaboration, transparency, and community-driven innovation, aligning with the ethos of the internet's foundational principles. As such, these projects will be premiered at this start of the .js domain ecosystem.
During a designated one-month registration window, ending at 2024-05-01T00:00:00Z, applications for .js domain registrations will be collected by IETFA. This period serves as an opportunity for individuals and organizations to submit their requests for domain ownership within the .js namespace. Following the closure of the registration window, the vetting process commences, leveraging advanced AI technology to analyze various criteria to ensure the legitimacy and credibility of prospective owners.
