Recently my wife wanted to scan some logical puzzles … and as it seems we had some old Canon CanoScan LiDE 25 USB scanner in the house. I was curious how much work would it take to make it work under FreeBSD … and it seems that it was way easier then I expected πŸ™‚

To use it under FreeBSD You will need graphics/sane-backends package – but I also installed graphics/simple-scan for convenient GUI.

Now generally everything should work. I did not started any additional services like avahi_daemon_enable=YES in the /etc/rc.conf file – maybe its needed for other scanners – but definitely not for this one.

I later used GIMP with Brightness: -10 and Contrast: +50 for some satisfying end result. I also switched image to Greyscale and done some Crop.
