Taking over a formerly official channel that has moved elsewhere is disruptive for the community associated with that channel. It's not only dangerous, but wanton unethical.

You know what you should do to have a functioning IRC network? Not piss off your potential user base. This is the opposite of that.

do you know how many IRC networks have channels that are unaffiliated with the project? get over yourself. i wonder which is more disruptive; migrating to a new network, or just keeping your head down?

This is about litterally adding "I reserve the right to take over your channels if you move elsewhere" during the political context of many channels jumping ship out of freenode because of the new managment.

"your" channels assumes like, some kind of legal ownership. it's a namespace on an IRC network, and if abandoned, it's free to revive by community members. i see no problem here though it'd be nice if it were redirected into a ## namespace, given to the requester.
