Victorians may be forced to wear face masks in public because the state’s coronavirus cases are in danger of getting out of hand.
On Sunday, the fifth day in a row of double-digit new infections, a further 19 cases were diagnosed, and only one of them is an arrival abroad.
Chief Heath Officer Brett Sutton said on Sunday that if the number of cases continues to rise, wearing a mask may be mandatory.

The World Health Organization’s advice was that masks are really only recommended if physical distance cannot be maintained and if there is a high transfer of the community.
“I’m open to the idea. I think we have to take into account that we will do whatever it takes to change things in Victoria because we have to get to a point where we are going to bring the numbers down to zero. ‘
