Called the Corolla Cross, the new SUV is built on the same Toyota New Global Architecture that forms the basis of the Corolla and C-HR models and slots between the C-HR and RAV4 models.

Speaking of dimensions, it measures 4 460 mm in length, 1 825 mm in width and 1 620 mm in height. It shares its wheelbase length with the C-HR.

Its power comes from two options; a 1.8-litre petrol engine with 104 kW and 175 Nm of torque plus a CVT transmission that sends power to the front axle.

There is a hybrid option that spawns a 600-volt electric motor with 54 kW and 163 Nm of torque. The electric motor works in conjunction with a 1.8-litre engine that churns out 73 kW and 142 Nm of torque. This derivative is paired with what Toyota calls e-CVT.

The Corolla Cross will initially be sold in Thailand this year and reports state that other markets will follow later. Toyota SA has not said anything with regards to local availability.
