Apple employees are circulating a letter urging CEO Tim Cook to issue a statement supporting the Palestinian people, according to a new report.

The letter, which was sent Monday and obtained by The Verge Thursday, has been signed by nearly 1,000 staffers. It calls on Apple to publicly acknowledge that "millions of Palestinian people currently suffer under an illegal occupation."

The internal letter was penned by the Apple Muslim Association, an official employee group, which said they were inspired to take action after noting that Apple had failed to put a statement condemning recent violence toward Palestinians.

News of the letter comes shortly after a deadly Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza that has killed roughly 227 people, including at least 63 children. On Thursday, the Israeli government agreed to a unilateral ceasefire, Reuters has reported.

We are sad and angry because we are once more reminded of the struggle and pain of the Palestinian people, and their decades-long existence under military occupation.
