Finland’s Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) posted the best time of three free practice sessions of the Hungarian Grand Prix, round 3 of the Formula 1 World Championship, on Saturday at the Hungaroring (4.381 km) in Budapest.
In 1 min 15 sec 437/1000 on soft tires, Bottas considerably improved the best time the day before by his teammate Lewis Hamilton on hard tires, and therefore slower on a lap (1: 16.003).
At the end of the third practice session on Saturday, the Finn finished ahead of the Briton, wearing the same tires as him, by 42/1000 only.
Behind them, the gap has narrowed with the competition. Always the fastest of the others, the Racing Point of the Mexican Sergio Pérez points to 161/1000. The Ferrari of Monegasque Charles Leclerc follows at 344/1000 and the Racing Point of the Canadian Lance Stroll at 596/1000.
While the rain disrupted free practice 2 on Friday afternoon, the session on Saturday remained dry. We expect no more than a light drizzle in the afternoon. Qualifications are scheduled at 3:00 p.m. (1:00 p.m. GMT).
