HSINCHU, Taiwan -- GlobalWafers, the Taiwanese company that is the world's third-largest producer of the base material for computer chips, plans to expand its presence in the U.S., Italy, Japan and South Korea as it broadens its production footprint beyond its homeland to reduce carbon emissions and boost supply chain resilience.
Doris Hsu, chairperson and CEO, told Nikkei Asia in an interview at the company's headquarters that the semiconductor industry has two "inevitable" global trends to follow: moving toward net-zero carbon emissions and building supply chain resilience.
