According to media reports, Bajaj Auto’s Waluj factory at Aurangabad in Maharashtra has reported 140 corona cases along with the death of 2 workers who were with the co-morbidities conditions. There were rumours that the manufacturer could shut down the plant in wake of reported COVID-19 cases within the factory.

The manufacturer has now issued a press release and stated that it has taken necessary safety precausions and has denied on shutdown rumours. The manufacturing facility has employees strength of over 8,100 of which 140 have been tested positive.

According to the press release, Bajaj Auto claims that there have been no COVID-19 cases reported between at the Waluj factory from April 24 and June 6, 2020, and the first case was reported on June 6, 2020.

The Waluj factory resumed operations on April 24, 2020, after a month’s lockdown; the manufacturing plant-primarily caters to the export markets. In addition to the Waluj facility, Bajaj Auto has factories at Chakan and Akurdi in Pune and in Pantnagar in Uttarakhand. The Waluj facility is said to have a capacity to roll-out over 500,000 bikes every year.
