Most of us have experienced pounding headache, stuffy nose, dry cough & pain in eyes or cheeks. These are hallmark signs of sinusitis. Around 30 million of adult population is affected by sinusitis & related headache worldwide. In this article, we will discuss how to detect & treat sinusitis headache at home.

It starts as fatigue, sore throat & fever. Then you have nasal obstruction as first specific symptom of sinusitis. Secondly, you notice mucus discharge from nose. Forehead headache, pain in cheeks & eyes will present in third phase. Finally, you observe loss of smell sensation. You can’t smell the aroma of your coffee or your favourite perfume.

Cheek pain is suggestive of involvement of maxillary sinus located behind cheek. Eye pain suggests of extension of sinusitis into eyes. Neck pain may suggest of extension of sinus infection into brain meninges. Dizziness may result from collection of fluid behind the ear as complication of sinusitis.

COVID 19 is also a viral infection & may present like sinusitis. The only way to recognise COVID 19 is dry cough & shortness of breath. Confirmation is done with throat swab test.
