I’ve had my reMarkable 2 for several years and overall it’s been a great device. Before we talk about the new reMarkable Paper Pro, let’s talk about the pros and cons of the older reMarkable 2:

When they announced the reMarkable Paper Pro I was really excited because it mostly addressed the parts of my original rM2 that I didn’t like. So I ordered it and it arrived last week. Here are my thoughts after working with it for a week.

I ordered the “Type Folio” and the “Marker Plus” along with the reMarkable Paper Pro — total cost, $902.78. Since the extras almost doubled the cost, let’s start with those first.

I don’t have the non-upgraded version of the pen so I don’t have anything to compare it to, but I can say that I really like the feel of this pen – it actually feels identical to the pen that came with the rM2, but the eraser end feels better while using it. The tip is about the same size, but more tapered with the rest of the pen to give it a smoother look. I think this was a good buy and I have no regrets.

This one I’m not so sure about. The sleeve that came with my rM2 didn’t have a keyboard, it was just a padded cloth sleeve with a little area to tuck in the pen. It was ultra-light and nice overall. This Type folio has a keyboard which I hilariously forgot about because when you open the folio you don’t see it. When I first got my rMPP (reMarkable Paper Pro) I immediately snapped it into the folio. Since it’s not a sleeve there was never any reason to remove it. My wife asked me how I liked the rMPP over the rM2 and I said it was nice, but it’s super heavy compared to the rM2 which isn’t great. I went to remove it from the Type Folio to get a better idea of weight and that’s when I realized there was a keyboard under there! 🤣 I had completely forgotten! The keyboard works fine, but it does add a noticeable amount of weight. It feels almost as heavy as the rMPP so when you put them together, that’s a much heavier device! Typing on the folio is fine, but honestly, I didn’t buy my rMPP to type on so it seems like waste of weight. If I were to do it over, I wouldn’t bother with the Type Folio and instead just opt for the book folio – I imagine it’s significantly lighter.
