Vermonters are no longer able to order Dell's energy-hungry gaming PCs due to the computer's energy consumption surpassing local energy efficiency standards.

Vermont is among six states from which some of Dell's models have been banned since July 1. According to reporting from the Register, anyone who attempts to order a Dell gaming PC to their Vermont home will receive a pop-up informing folks of the rule.

"This product cannot be shipped to the states of California, Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont or Washington due to power consumption regulations adopted by those states," the website says. "Any orders placed that are bound for those states will be canceled."

The ban was driven by the California Energy Commission's Tier 2 implementation of Title 20, for Appliance Efficiency Regulations, defining a mandatory energy efficiency standard for PCs, according to the Register.

Vermont law has followed suit in adopting some of the California Energy Commission standards, according to the Vermont state website. The state has established minimum efficiency standards for computers and computer monitors.
