Two former interns who had their full-time offers rescinded said that company recruiters told them last fall that written offers and contracts would be on the way soon. For more than three months, recruiters repeatedly said that they would receive official offer packages, but said that they were delayed due to operational updates, according to the former interns, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they're currently applying for jobs.

Then, during phone calls held in March, members of Shopify's recruiting team informed them that the roles they had received verbal offers for were no longer available, these former interns said.

Both told Insider that they were set to graduate from college this spring and were under the impression that they would have a job at Shopify shortly thereafter.

"The messaging seemed pretty clear that there was an offer because they kept saying, 'We are in the process of confirming your offer packages,'" one former intern said. "None of us had been looking for other opportunities."
