I recently went down an AI image generator rabbit hole. The exploration was interesting…both fun and troubling in ways that only new things can be. I tried three experiments including: AI headshots based on Rachel Stephen’s blog , DALL-E with an existing image, and DALL-E with just prompts.
Prompts were added regarding head shape and jawline but the resulting image did not follow them. Also, my scarf and high wool coat collar to brave the cold day in Manhattan is replaced by a deep, scoop neck shirt.
I started by uploading the following reference photo to DALL-E. Note this is your typical headshot in business attire. You can tell from the photo that I am Asian, middle-aged, with dark eyes and blue hair. I will admit to picking a shirt that matched my blue hair.
I started by asking it to remake this image in a futuristic style. Apparently in the future, I am much younger, no longer asian, and have also stopped wearing shirts underneath my jackets. Notice how high the collar comes up in the original photo.I could be convinced the blue eyes are an artistic touch to match the blue color of the hair…maybe…but the shape and set of the eyes are not distinctive for people of Asian descent.
