An update to Tesla’s mobile app revealed that the automaker plans to add new paint colors to its fleet for the first time since 2015.

Elon Musk has discussed that Gigafactory Berlin is slated to have the world’s most-advanced paint shop, which will enable complex new multi-layered paint options.

Eventua lly Gigafactories Fremont and Shanghai will also be upgraded to include a similarly-advanced paint shop. The paint shop for Model 3 at Fremont was recently upgraded, although no differences in paint quality have been reported nor have new colors been offered yet.

Let’s just say finally. We were thinking about this the other day: Tesla has managed to remain fairly complacent in its paint offerings, with no changes in several years.

Silver is a popular color that showcases particularly well on Tesla’s vehicles, lending itself to the design of Model 3, that will be welcomed by many as a re-introduction as Tesla previously offered a pure Silver Metallic.

Multi-Coat paints are Tesla’s specialty, so two new colors with even more depth and clarity will also be an easy sell. Elon Musk already has a personal Model S in Deep Crimson Multi-Coat, which is an incredibly deep burgundy-type shade of red.
