As a CTO, I’ve been reflecting on what’s ahead in 2025, and I see a landscape that’s both challenging and exciting. Here’s my take on where we’re heading and how we can prepare to lead effectively.

Let’s face it—traditional SaaS is fading away. I agree wholeheartedly with Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, when he says, “SaaS it is dead.” Well kind of. The future of SaaS lies in being API-first and designed to work with AI agents.

I envision a new wave of protocols emerging, enabling SaaS systems to cooperate in an agent-driven world. This shift will redefine how tools integrate, moving from isolated systems to ecosystems that work seamlessly together under AI’s coordination.

In this new world, modularity isn’t just a "best practice"; it’s survival. Systems need to be flexible and ready to adapt quickly. Whether it’s swapping out a cloud provider or integrating new AI capabilities, the ability to make fast, seamless changes will define success.

For CTOs, modularity also means controlling the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Cloud services are expensive, and smaller businesses are already feeling the pinch. By designing systems with interchangeable parts, we can cut costs and stay agile.
