Note: During the course of writing this article, I migrated from AS210777 to AS149794. The rest pretty much stays the same.

First, I would like to give Civo a shout-out for sponsoring the Autonomous System Number (ASN) allocation (AS210777), a /32 IPv6 prefix and also a /24 IPv4 prefix for me. I’d also like to thank APNIC, which allocated the /24 for experimental purposes, and later allocated an IPv6 prefix and an ASN.

In this post I’ll share the procedures I followed, serially, to have my prefix advertised to the world and get the network up and running. Anything of operational/ISP value that arose from this project has been entered into my guide. Everything else is research, observation, and some minor operationally useful content such as IRR/GeoIP practices.

In my case, both the ASN (210777) allocation and IPv6 prefix (the old prefix before migration) were requested from and allocated by RIPE directly via the folk at Civo. However, I manually requested the /24 prefix from APNIC under the experimental allocation policies.
