Mozilla, the entity behind the famous web browser Firefox, has recently released an Android version of Thunderbird, its privacy-focused email client. We have made the decision to replace p≡p (pretty easy privacy), our default email app, with Thunderbird, as p≡p is no longer being maintained.

Many of you will already know and love Thunderbird as the most popular open source email client. Finally, Thunderbird is cross-platform, meaning you can have the same great experience on all of your devices, including on your mobile device with iodéOS!

Thunderbird for Android is based on K-9, an open-source email client popular among our community and those most conscious of privacy. Thunderbird is supported by a dedicated team of developers alongside a global community of volunteers, and will never treat your private data as a product.

Replacing an app after an update would mean that the app would simply disappear from your device. We don’t want to make the transition too brutal. That is why the official change will not happen with our next Over-The-Air (OTA) system update in November, but instead with the one after, in December. That leaves enough time for you to transition smoothly from p≡p to Thunderbird.
