What we have for you today is another unique invention set that, while encompassing the traditional stove, is modern enough to charge your cell phone! The invention comes from the founders of BioLite; Alec Drummond and Jonathan Cedar. They were working at a design firm in New York when they came up with the idea to try a combination of a wood-burning stove and a thermoelectric generator. The gadget is known as CampStove. Priced at $ 130, CampStove can boil a liter of water in less than 5 seconds, 4.5 seconds to be exact, and can charge your iPhone while doing so. Everything can be accomplished by just burning a few twigs. The installation of the internal fan has increased the efficiency of the reaction; the fire is warmer and is close to being smokeless.
According to Alec Drummond; "We started doing CampStove because it was a very good exercise to understand how the technology worked." The company tried to design this in the most compact way possible, but this is not where they stop, they have bigger goals; HomeStove. This largest stove will be used in the developing world, and the company has wisely used the revenue they earn from sales of CampStove. Jonathan Cedar, CEO, said; "The company follows a model we call 'parallel innovation,' where we have technology that has short-term application in an accessible recreation and emergency preparedness market, and we take the revenue to hatch longer-term markets in emerging companies." According to research by BioLite, Almost 3 billion people cook food on the open fire and that is the cause of the creation of approximately one billion metric tons of CO2 per year, resulting in the death of 2 million people per year. HomeStove gives people the opportunity to cook more cleanly and efficiently. Surprisingly, the HomeStove uses half the fuel compared to open fires and produces only 5 percent of the smoke. Of the 3 billion people who cook on open fires, approximately 1.3 billion do not have access to electricity; something HomeStove aims to fix.
