Hello. This was my Weekend Essay that I missed last week. I won’t normally send emails twice on a Monday, but today is your lucky (?) day.
I was at my first in-person networking event last night for the first time in about 2 years. At first it felt a little bit like I was an alien that didn’t understand how the human race should interact with each other. Should I shake hands? Should I keep my distance? Should I wear a mask? Should I not?
I got over it in the end and we all had a lot of fun. I even gave a little talk about branding through the medium of The Terminator.
My talk meandered through the idea of branding and why it was important. It spoke about how your brand is not just your logo, it’s everything that you do. The way you speak, dress, the things you say, the things you don’t say. Your blog posts. Your lack of blog posts. The list goes on.
It was a high-level talk designed to get you to think about the importance of building a brand. The Terminator was first released in 1984, so how in the hell has it gone on to have a lasting cultural impact?
