Because Pivotal Tracker is and was an incredible product that helped facilitate the creation of other great products, helped people experience better work, and shaped a generation of builders’ perspectives about how to work as a team . It deserves to live on.

Right now the goal is to replicate the essential elements of Pivotal Tracker. We’ll maintain a list of projects (likely using Pivotal and then our own tool as we move forward), but the goal is to capture the core features that make Pivotal such a powerful tool. This includes the speed and interactions for core ticket management; the planning, prioritization, iteration, and velocity tracking; the basic epic management, labeling, and commenting structure. That is obviously not an exhaustive list, but we think the magic of Pivotal lies in those core experiences and we’re going to try to get as close to the original as possible for those and then layer in reporting, more configuration (like cycle configurations and estimation approaches), and then eventually add new features once we’ve done our best to meet the needs of existing customers just looking for a transition tool. Our intent is to build this into a viable and sustainable business and continue the evolution of the product so that it stays relevant and supported for the long term.

Our first goal is to get a viable product together. From there, we expect that we’ll offer a free transition period mainly due to time constraints while we build out billing. Our first pricing is likely to be less than Pivotal’s due to initial feature limitations, but we expect to land somewhere similar to where they are by the end of 2025.
