Platform Subsidence at Hangzhou East Station: ‘Getting Off the High-Speed Train Feels Like Diving’
According to the Chinese media outlet “Jimu News,” Hangzhou East Station, which has just marked its 11th anniversary since opening, has recently been reported by netizens to have platform subsidence issues, causing inconvenience for passengers getting on and off trains and raising safety concerns. On July 5, staff at Hangzhou East Station responded by confirming the existence of platform subsidence, stating that the issue has been handed over to professional departments for inspection.
On July 3, a netizen posted that there is a subsidence problem at Hangzhou East Station. The blogger’s photos showed that the bottom of the train cars passing through the station was noticeably higher than the platform.
As early as May 2023, a blogger posted that the platform subsidence at Hangzhou East Station was evident, with the platform near the center being almost level with the bottom of the train cars, while the two ends had a significant height difference. Related videos showed cracks on some platforms, forming slopes on the surface. Due to the subsidence, extra caution is needed when disembarking. One netizen posted that “Hangzhou East has a new diving board; those unaware might think they are diving.”
Public information shows that Hangzhou East Station was once one of the largest railway stations in Asia, expanded in 2009, and officially opened in 2013.
