Jorge Linares is a boxing veteran. Having made his debut in 2002 and remaining out of the limelight, he entered 52 boxing bouts in the next 19 years. But do you know where does Linares live? Where did all of this start for the 35-year-old?

‘El Nino de Oro’ was born in Venezuela, but in order to dedicate his life to boxing and turn into a pro-boxer, he moved to Japan at a very young age.

In an old interview with Sky Sports, Linares’ former coach, Rudy Hernandez said, “He was a very talented amateur, he stood out. He was too young to turn pro in Venezuela but, in Japan, you can be a pro at 17. He liked it so much that he stayed.”

In his early boxing days, Linares understood he might not get extensive boxing opportunities in his home country. This is predominantly why he took a bold decision to leave Venezuela and make his boxing career worth the time, effort, and hard work.

After moving to Japan, ‘El Nino de Oro’ worked extremely hard to sharpen up his boxing skills. Furthermore, he made his debut before becoming an adult. That said, he was fairly successful with his decision. And today he’s regarded as one of the best boxing technicians of all time.
