Highlights Heatwaves impact every human organ, from the brain to the heart, kidneys, liver, and lungs. The warming of the Indian Ocean and more frequent El Niño events may lead to more frequent and longer heatwave episodes over India in the future. Experts warn that between 2020 and 2100, the Indian Ocean will very likely experience surface warming of 1.4°C to 3°C.
