Media server setup with Jellyfin, Sonarr, Radarr and Prowlarr
Jellyfin is a client/server media player system. When you install a media server program on your computer, it becomes your host server. You can connect to it from your phone and stream the media that’s stored on your computer’s hard drive. Think of it like Netflix, but your computer is the server and the content that is available is based on the media files on the computer. Another more known media server is Plex, but Jellyfin is a completely free and open-source alternative. Jellyfin is available for Linux, MacOS and Windows.
You know how you have to manually download the episodes of the shows you like and rename them correctly? Well these three apps will help you automate it. They automatically download new episodes as they become available and can replace lower quality videos with higher quality ones once they become available. Sonarr is for series and Radarr for movies. Prowlarr is an application that will help Sonarr and Radarr to search for different series and movies from different trackers. It allows you to add all your favorite torrent indexing sites in one place without the need to visit each site individually every time you go to search for a series or movie.
Install the latest Jellyfin server from here. On MacOS, remember to move the application to the Application folder. On Arch Linux, you can install Jellyfin from the AUR as jellyfin-bin and start the service with this command: sudo systemctl enable --now jellyfin.service
