Fastly, a content delivery network aka CDN, serving as an internet intermediary and offering the Fastly CDN Service to make transmission of content from creators to end users more efficient, faced a minor glitch that affected numerous large and popular websites.

Fastly’s CDN Service makes the transmission of customer-generated content, user-generated content (which is sometimes refer to as “content objects”) more efficient by automatically storing copies at intermediate locations on a temporary basis. The process of storing these copies is known as “caching” and the server locations in which they are stored are referred to as “caches.”

At Jun 08, 2021 – 09:58 UTC they experienced a global disruption which affected countless popular websites including Reddit, Spotify, Twitch, Stack Overflow, GitHub, gov.uk, Hulu, HBO Max, Quora, PayPal, Vimeo, Shopify, and news outlets CNN, The Guardian, The New York Times, BBC, Financial Times and other numerous websites relying on their services.

Fastly has confirmed it’s facing an outage on its status website. More details about the glitch is found on Fastly’s website here.
