Why will my device lose access to the digital library on April 15, 2024?
On April 15, 2024, OverDrive will make necessary security upgrades to protect the privacy of user data. These upgrades mean certain Android devices with older operating systems will lose access to the OverDrive app and OverDrive websites.
On April 15, 2024, OverDrive is ending support for Android 7.1.0 and lower. This is because these operating systems will no longer be supported by our web certificate provider, Let's Encrypt. Web certificates are used to secure connections on many websites and apps. For example, at OverDrive, they protect the privacy of data like library card numbers and individual browsing activity.
If possible, update your operating system to at least Android 7.1.1 (see Google's steps for updating your Android version). Please note that when you update your operating system, there's always a risk of losing access to other apps that may not be available for newer operating system versions.
If you're using an early Kindle Fire that can't use Libby or the OverDrive app, you'll still be able to read library ebooks that are delivered or transferred to it from a supported device.
