Lithium-based batteries are everywhere today - they almost replaced all other types of batteries. However, a traditional car with an internal combustion engine stubbornly resists “lithium expansion”, still using classic lead-acid batteries to start the engine, which, by the way, turned 160 this year! Why is this happening?

160 years ago, thanks to the Paris professor of physics, electrical engineer Gaston Plant, the first lead-acid battery appeared  - a part of any car that is familiar to everyone today. When the automobile age came into its own, the lead kept the monopoly under the hood for many years, being the optimal type of chemical current source with a value sufficient to rotate the ICE starter. However, lithium batteries (there are a lot of technologies for batteries with cathodes based on lithium compounds, we will not go into details now and we will call all of them “lithium” for simplicity) have surpassed their lead grandfathers, providing the same capacitance and current efficiency in significantly less weight and volume. Why are we still not seeing lithium starter batteries on the shelves of auto parts stores? Let's try to figure it out!

This question may seem strange - everything seems to be clear to the hedgehog. However, the battery value was not always the same ...
