Refined white sugar is very harmful to health, and lately, people have realized its ill-effects on health. It is one of the major factors causing people to grapple with diabetes, gastrointestinal issues, premature aging, cardiac issues, kidney failure, and many more diseases.
Our body is a very intricate biological system, and its processes are very complex. Each organ and its functions are interdependent, and any malfunctioning due to deficiency or heightened level of micronutrients, i.e., vitamins and minerals and macronutrients, i.e., carbohydrates, protein, and fats can wreak havoc.
The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that controls the sugar levels in the blood by regulating glucose storage and usage. Beta cells in the pancreas are primarily responsible for its production. Accordingly, to study when beta cells are subjected to a high concentration of glucose, its functionality rapidly got lost. When the same experiment was repeated in a low-glucose environment, most of them recovered and reached their normal insulin production levels.
Hence, the longer these cells stayed in sugary solution, the longer time it took them to recover, and researchers expressed that damage would probably be irreversible after prolonged exposure to glucose baths.
