The implications of recent advances in Artificial Intelligence (AI) have spurred heated debate globally. The hype, reality, ethics and devouring impact of algorithms in our lives with digital transformation is hard to ignore.

Our data is being collected, harvested, shared and profited over by machine learning where a few companies benefit, while we don’t. Those free platforms and conveniences don’t seem so free and wonderful anymore.

Machine learning is a bane and a blessing for humankind, and AI isn’t even close to being properly regulated and likely won’t be for decades to come. In an open-source world, AI is being democratized and the marketplace of global capitalism is a black market for our data.

Consumer privacy, intellectual property, national security, enterprise leverage, it’s a complicated world. AI is the central hub of this story. It could be argued AI and global warming dominate the 21st century as few other topics will. While we have occasional opinions about global warming, AI is already too ubiquitous to really have an informed opinion on.

As science fiction starts to become reality, AI products are slowly infiltrating homes and workplaces. This is raising concerns about the potential detrimental effects of AI on the job market (WEF), or even about the dangers of an AI singularity, where sentient robots take over the world and destroy humans.
